The ASHP eLearning Center is a great place to get some free pharmacy CE. Some are paid CE programs, but there are a number of free ones as well.

The eLearning Center also has a number of CE topics, including the 340B program, artificial intelligence in pharmacy practice, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare settings.

To get free CE, log in to your ASHP account (or create an account) and browse the full library of CE opportunities.

You can choose from on-demand activities, live webinars, and self-guided online modules.

The PTCB CE Directory is a valuable resource for pharmacy technicians looking for free CE.

This comprehensive directory, developed in collaboration with the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), helps you find continuing education activities that fulfill your PTCB credential renewal requirements.

To use the directory effectively, start by reviewing the specific renewal requirements for your certification. Then, choose your search criteria and click "Search" to view the results. You'll find a wide range of ACPE-accredited CE activities on various topics, including pharmacy law.

When selecting CE activities, be sure to tick the box for the target audience designation 'T' (technician-specific) so you get the technician CE.

Also, Remember to submit your NABP e-Profile ID to the CE provider before registering for any activity. This step ensures your CE hours are properly reported to CPE Monitor, making it easier to track your progress and fulfill your recertification requirements.

The Pharmacy Times CE Center also has a few free CE activities for technicians.

The CE Center covers a broad spectrum of topics relevant to pharmacy technician workflow across various disease states. You can access expert-led programs that focus on unmet clinical and educational needs in areas like diabetes care and management, vaccination, and other medication-related pharmacy operations.

You can download their free CE mobile app from the iTunes store so you can complete CE programs on your iPod Touch, iPhone, or other mobile devices. Additionally, the Pharmacy Times iPad edition allows you to access CE programs wherever and whenever you want, providing ultimate flexibility in your learning journey.

The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) has both free and paid programs, with a good selection of freebies.

Once registered, you'll receive an access code via email, allowing you to log in to NABP's CPE Submission Site. Remember to claim your CPE credit within 60 days of completing the activity to ensure proper processing.

To stay updated on upcoming live webinars and home study opportunities, you can sign up for email alerts from NABP.

Many states also offer free or low-cost CE programs directly through their websites or provide links to approved providers. For instance, the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy collaborates with the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education to offer continuing education credits for specific activities.

Some states have unique requirements. For example, Kansas pharmacists renewing their license by June 30, 2025, must complete a course titled "K-TRACS for Pharmacies: Good Data In, Good Data Out" to comply with state regulations [2]. This course is also available for pharmacy technicians.

By utilizing your State Board of Pharmacy website, you can ensure you're meeting all necessary requirements while accessing free pharmacy law CE for technicians online.

The Bottom Line

If you look around, you’ll find there are quite a few free CE activities for pharmacy technicians. Between all these sites, most technicians can get their CE done without paying a dime!
