"Chemo gloves" or "chemotherapy gloves" are the names given to gloves that meet ASTM-D6978 standards. These standards require testing to ensure the majority of chemotherapy and other hazardous agents cannot pass through them, exposing the healthcare worker.
Research has demonstrated that most chemotherapy agents can pass right through vinyl gloves, for example. That means using vinyl gloves is not much different, from an exposure standpoint, than handling chemotherapy without gloves.
When dispensing hazardous drugs, be sure you are using gloves labeled as meeting ASTM-D6978 standards. It should be clearly marked on the box and usually has a table on the reverse side of the box listing all the medications tested on the gloves.
